South Korea Rated Highest For Plastic Surgery
While the USA is a destination in finding the best board certified plastic surgeons and has the largest number of procedures on its roster, compared to the rest of the world, it surprisingly is not in the lead for cosmetic surgery per capita. A recent study compared the ratio of the population to cosmetic surgeries performed and discovered that South Korea was indeed at the top of the list.
And it has held this position for some time.
While data in the field of medicine may not be exact, it has been proven that South Korea does have the highest rate of cosmetic surgery based on a per capita estimate.
A recent report has indicated that roughly one-third of the women living in Seoul have undergone plastic surgery. According to the BBC, roughly 50 percent of the women in Seoul who are in their twenties are part of this plastic surgery culture.
And it’s not just women.
Men tally in at 15 percent for plastic surgery, with the most popular being upper and lower eyelid surgery.
While the women in South Korea are affording themselves an array of cosmetic choices, most are opting for eyelid surgery, liposuction, and rhinoplasty.
If South Korea rates at number one, who are the others one might begin to wonder?
First, it’s interesting to note that plastic surgery is not for celebrities gracing the red carpet anymore. Cosmetic surgery is available to everyone.
While young people in South Korea are seeking aesthetic changes, here in the USA a surge of people are having cosmetic surgery in their forties and fifties to look more youthful in the corporate world as well as in their social circles.
With South Korea in the lead, the remainder of the top five countries where plastic surgery is most popular is as follows:
In second position is Greece. For many, this is quite a surprise given the fact that the country has been struggling with its economy. Nevertheless, the most popular procedure among Grecian women is breast augmentations. Despite the economy, it appears that the cost of plastic surgery in Greece is reasonably priced as compared to other countries.
Coming in at third for plastic surgery per capita is Italy. Interestingly, Italians prefer anti-aging injections such as Botox and fillers. In the operating room, however, the top plastic surgery performed in Italy was liposuction.
The popularity of plastic surgery in the USA has made leaps and bounds over the years. This field of medicine is rapidly growing. While procedures may be more costly, financing opportunities are making it more affordable for patients to seek out the best board certified plastic surgeons. In 2014, it is estimated that the USA performed a total of 10,663,607 cosmetic surgeries. The most requested procedure was liposuction. Other top procedures in San Diego are breast augmentation, nose surgery, eyelid surgery, cosmetic injections and fillers. An economic engine, Americans paid almost $12 billion toward cosmetic procedures between the years of 2013 and 2014.
The most sought after procedure in Colombia is liposuction. According to this country’s numbers it’s estimated that over 90,000 cosmetic procedures were performed.
Worldwide, plastic surgery is in demand and it appears it will stay that way well into the future.
