Pick The Best cosmetic Surgeon in San Diego

When Should You Avoid Breast Augmentation Surgeries

November 3 2015 , Written by Dr. Glynn Bolitho Published on #San Diego breast implants, #San Diego breast augmentation

Undergoing a breast augmentation is a relatively simple medical procedure. It is an ideal way to improve the figure of women who have researched the surgery, have talked in depth with a board certified San Diego plastic surgeon who specializes in breast augmentations, and have really considered all of their options. However, it is important to note that just because the breast augmentation is simple does not mean that every woman should undergo the process.

The following times are when a woman should pause and reconsider their options.

1. The idea for breast augmentation comes from impulse

As with all medical procedures, a San Diego breast augmentation should be considered thoughtfully for a significant amount of time. If a woman merely wants a breast augmentation because a friend is undergoing one, or perhaps she has seen a commercial that appealed to her, then she should do her due diligence and research her options. Otherwise, there is a high possibility that she may not be prepared with the outcome.

2. The patient’s goals are unrealistic

A highly qualified, board certified plastic surgeon will be very frank with patients regarding what to expect after a breast augmentation. If a woman wants size DD breasts but is very athletic, or has a small frame, then the augmentation of that size may not be the best option for them. It is not uncommon for women who have gotten large enhancements to downsize after they have difficulty doing everyday tasks with their new upper physique. In addition, a woman who has implants that are too large may cause breast tissue atrophy, and may sag with age.

The surgeon should suggest modest implants that are going to give optimal results without significantly altering everyday life for the patient.

3. The potential patient is not done having children, or has young children that demand constant attention.

While there is nothing wrong with a young mother enhancing her figure, a breast augmentation might not be in the cards for a few years. Because a breast’s tissue will change and stretch with pregnancy and breastfeeding, a woman who is not done having children may not have the best results if she chooses to have surgery and continue having children.  After the surgery, patients usually need to leave off of daily chores and housework while healing. Even lifting one’s arms is prohibited, as is carrying heavy objects. This process may take several weeks, and if a mother does not have help to care for her children, she will not be able to recover properly from her surgery.

4. The surgeon is not specialized in breast augmentation.

Once a woman has decided that she indeed wants breast augmentation, she should find a board certified plastic surgeon that specializes in breast enhancements. This will allow for the patient to see previous work on former patients, and it also makes it clear what abilities the doctor has in terms of working with real people. If the doctor that a patient consults with does not have a specialization in breast enhancements, or is not able to provide references for their work, it may be time to reconsider and find a breast implants surgeon in San Diego that can meet her specific goals.
